April 30 2007: Over The Top Festival is this week!!!

After many months of planning, the festival is here for another year. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible. If you're in Toronto, please pick up a copy of EYE Magazine this Thursday, May 3rd for a cut out festival guide. As well, we have received many e-mails regarding the foul play situation that can be read about in our April 2, 2007 news piece. We can say that is still an ongoing situation, however our focus right now is ensuring that the 2007 Over The Top Festival is the best year yet.

We have had a few website issues that have prevented us from updating the schedule section, but please note the following shows are indeed happening:

The Coast w. Rich Aucoin, Will Currie & The County French + BA Johnston is happening on May 4 at the Whippersnapper Gallery. It will start at 8:00pm and run until midnight. It is $8 at the door.

Matt & Kim, Page France, Yah Mos Def, The Fancy Claps and a possible other special guest are playing a matinee on May 5th at the Tranzac from 12:30pm-4:30pm. $10adv/dr.

Many shows are selling quickly, so please pick up your tickets now. Thank you to the support from local and national media, including: Toronto Life, Pitchfork, Eye Magazine, Exclaim Magazine, Now Magazine and countless others. A comprehensive press section with articles will hopefully be up before the festival starts.

April 27, 2007: Daniel Johnston Sold Out + Updated News

We're less than one week away from the start of the sixth annual Over The Top Festival. Our closing show on May 6th with Daniel Johnston is now sold out, however, he will be performing live on MTV on May 7th if anyone is interested in attending.

Our foul play situation is still ongoing, and continues to be pursued. Thank you again for the support and kind e-mails.

We regret to inform you that Our Brother The Native have had to cancel their May 6th matinee performance due to a family emergency. We wish them the best and look forward to bringing them to Toronto another time. The Fancy Claps have been added to the May 5th matinee at the Tranzac with Matt & Kim, Page France & Yah Mos Def, replacing the Explorers Club. The show is not listed on our schedule page, however it will be later today, as it was recently confirmed.

Thank you again for taking the time to come visit our website. We look forward to sharing an extended weekend with you and are looking forward to another great year.

April 17, 2007: Tickets Moving Quickly + Updated News:

It has been a few weeks since we last updated the news section of our website, and lots of information to share with you.

We are still working on our foul play situation, which you can read about in the April 2nd news blurb and are optimistic it will soon be resolved.

Tickets are nearly sold out for the May 6th performance featuring Daniel Johnston, so please pick up tickets sooner than later. The same goes for many of the festival shows, including, but not limited to Mt. Eerie and Meligrove Band. We are optimistic that most, if not all shows will reach capacity, so please act sooner, rather than later.

We regret to inform you that the Explorers Club have had to cancel their upcoming tour, resulting in the cancellation of two festival performances. They have been replaced by Michigan-based pop band, The Icicles on May 3rd with the Hylozoists, and with an act to be announced on the 5th. Please look out for more information over the coming days.

For Immediate Release - April 2, 2007: Young Entrepreneur Tackles CFL

Young Toronto entrepreneur Eric Warner has called a foul play on the Canadian Football League. Warner is an established event promoter who since 2002 has continued to run his banner "Over The Top Festival" in Toronto. Warner's trademark spring event caters to audiences of all ages with its eclectic music and arts programming. Meanwhile the CFL is promoting its fall Grey Cup festivities and entertainment in Toronto, using the same name "Over The Top Festival", although there is absolutely no association between the two Toronto events.

For Immediate Release - March 1, 2007: The Over The Top Festival is Back

The Over The Top Festival is returning to Toronto for its sixth straight year and will run from May 3rd to 6th, 2007.

The upbeat, entirely all-ages music festival is making its first foray into film, theatre and visual art. This synergizes well with Over The Top’s main theme which, since its inception mandates exposing audiences of all ages to new and interesting artists in a variety of alternative music settings.

Over The Top 2007 promises to be the most exciting fest to date, especially with its innovative programming. Each year the festival has continued to grow in leaps and bounds; a true testament to its growing embrace from a very supportive audience excited to see their new favourite bands.

Musical performers for the Over The Top 2007 edition include: Daniel Johnston, Michael Gira, Mt. Eerie, Flosstradamus, Julie Doiron, Meligrove Band, Japanther, Matt & Kim, Page France, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Peter & The Wolf, Arnold Dreyblatt & many others.

Film screenings for the festival include: Jandek – A Duality of Self, The Guatemalan Handshake & Before The Music Dies amongst others. Over The Top is very excited to announce the inclusion of Giant Killer Shark: The Musical, a standout musical that is remarkably similar to a 1975 film about a killer shark that stalks the residents of a copyright-protected island.
